The Outstanding Schools Awards in Nature-based Education

Award Objectives

  • To encourage schools to integrate nature-based education into academic subjects and develop long-term strategic planning
  • To commend and recognize schools that demonstrate outstanding achievements in implementing nature-based education
  • To enhance public understanding, appreciation, and awareness of nature-based education

Eligibility

  • All local government, aided, and Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) primary and secondary schools
  • Each school may submit a maximum of one application for “The Outstanding Schools Awards in Nature-based Education”

Application and Assessment Schedule

June 2026 - January 2027
Application Period

Interested schools can apply by completing the online application form (Google Form). Upon receipt, schools will be issued the Nature-based Education Activity Record Form and the Competition Declaration Form via email.

September 2026 - January 2027
Nature-based Learning Activities Implementation Period
  • Schools implement the Nature-based Education Activities
  • Participating schools are required to record the details of all activities that qualifies for ‘the Nature-based education’ using the provided Activity Record Form within this period
February 2027
Submission of Nature-based Education Activities Materials
  • Participating schools are required to upload the Activity Record Forms, Activities photos, and the signed Competition Declaration Form to the designated Google Drive link.
  • To facilitate the exchange of activity information, relevant event data—including school names, activity venues, number of participants, and activity types — will be uploaded to the “Nature-based Education Activity Map”.
March 2027
Assessment Period

Stage 1 - Preliminary Evaluation

  • All submitted activity records and materials will be reviewed and scored by the Judging Committee. If necessary, schools may be requested to provide supplementary information to verify and follow up on the details of the activities.

Stage 2 - Final Assessment

  • Shortlisted schools may be invited to attend and present in the final presentation session.
  • The Assessment Committee will determine the final winners for each award based on the scores and presentation of the shortlisted schools.

“The 1st Outstanding Schools and Teachers Awards in Nature-based Education” Ceremony.

July 2027
Follow-up Activities

Winning school representatives will participate in an Overseas Professional Exchange Tour focused on nature-based education.

Prizes

The competition is divided into two categories:

Primary Schools Category
Secondary Schools Category

Each category features a Champion, First Runner-up, Second Runner-up, and ten Merit Awards. The prize details are as follows:

Champion
(1 per category)
  1. Overseas Professional Exchange Tour, 1 sponsored place (Sponsorship amount: HK$4,250)
  2. Outdoor Wildlife Learning Hong Kong (OWLHK) Activity Voucher (Valued at : HK$8,000)
  3. A Complimentary "Law of the Forest" Board Game & Outdoor Exploration Session led by OWLHK (Duration: 3.5 hours; No. of participating students: 32 max. ; includes round-trip coach service between the school and the field trip venue)
  4. Complimentary filming and production of a promotional video* by a professional team to showcase the school's outstanding achievements in nature-based education.
  5. Trophy and Certificate
First Runner-up
